Plants need to grow healthy growth\, we like to beautify the by improving their shape\, and it boosts blooms. This presentation covers simple techniques\, the right tools\, and tips for avoiding common mistakes. We will learn the right way and the right time to prune for formal and informal landscapes.\nApril Harris is a retired university administrator\, an Orange County Master Gardener\, president of the Windermere Garden Club\, and a National Parks Service Volunteer at Canaveral National Seashore on the Wilson’s Plover shorebird monitoring team. The group is directed by Vivian Cook. They rehearse weekly and perform outreach concerts at local community centers. Their repertoire covers many styles and genres but specializes in favorite standards and show tunes. They present programs for a variety of community organizations throughout Central Florida. There are jewels living in our gardens\, valued because they keep our gardens healthy and thriving. Dena Wild will talk about these jewels\, how we benefit from them\, and how to attract them to our gardens. \nDena is a certified master gardener\, who serves on the Master Gardener Advisory Board\, with 50 years of gardening experience and 30 years specializing in growing herbs and vegetables. She is a guest lecturer and writer on home gardening topics. She holds a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon. Her urban horticulture education includes “hands-in-the-dirt” experience\, post-graduate studies in landscape architecture at the University of Colorado\, the Boulder and Orange County Master Gardener programs\, and the University of Florida’s Best Management Practices for the Green Industry. \nCommunity Service: Audubon Center for Birds of Prey

This month you can start planning that garden and Fran and Adrienne will tell us how to take into account companion planting\, solar orientation\, and maximizing your garden space. \nAdrienne Barton\, a former educator\, managed the Winter Park Vegetable Garden adjacent to Mead Botanical Garden for nine years. She volunteers her time at two Orange County schools with the Headstart Gardening Program\, which educates children about the awareness and benefits of growing vegetables. Fran Boettcher\, a master gardener\, has co-authored a series of educational workshops on butterfly gardening and landscape design. She is actively involved in the Headstart Vegetable Gardening program. He has a degree in Communications/Public Speaking from UCF\, a Masters of Divinity from Duke University\, a Doctoral degree from Asbury Theological Seminary\, and a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from St. Thomas University. He is the Lead Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Orlando.\nVance was first introduced to gardening in high school when he worked at the Palmer Seed and Feed Store on Church Street. He will define what Bonsai is and give a brief history. We will learn about the primary features\, different styles\, and needs of bonsai.
